THE ANTI DRUG CAMAPAIGN

DRUGS
Many people, especially the youth, make use of illegal drugs.
Many young people try drugs and they all have different reasons: they do it for sun, curiosity, to be like their friends, or simply to break rules. Whatever the reason is the use of drugs is harmful. Using street drugs might make the person feel well, but they damage health.
The use of drugs and alcohol together is a greater danger.
These are some of the effects they do when used together.
  • They each may increase the side effects of the other substance and can cause coma or death with some drugs.
  • The person who makes use of them might get a higher dose of a drug more than what he/she is used to get and this can be fatal.
  • Serious infections such as HIV and hepatitis.
  • Accidents, arguments and fights because of the drug effects or the drunkenness.
  • Using drugs can lead to serious mental illness, such as psychosis or depression
  • Can lead to health problems and to overdose.

ABOUT DRUGS

There are two different types of drug: medical drugs and illegal drugs. However this campaign is about illegal drugs.

Illegal drugs exist in different shape, size and types and each drug produces different effect on people.
People take drugs for many reasons: boredom, experimentation, to fit in, etc. Many drugs cause dependence.

Drugs are divided in categories, or classes. The classes ( A, B and C) are decided according to the level of penalty for possession and dealing.

Possession:Dealing:
Class AEcstasy, LSD, heroin, cocaine, crack, magic mushrooms, amphetamines (if prepared for injection).Up to seven years in prison or an unlimited fine or both.Up to life in prison or an unlimited fine or both.

Class CTranquilisers, some painkillers, Gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), Ketamine.Up to two years in prison or an unlimited fine or both.Up to 14 years in prison or an unlimited fine or both.
All the drugs listed above are treated with the law called Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
This law states that it is an offence to:
  • possess a controlled substance unlawfully
  • possess a controlled substance with intent to supply it
  • supply or offer to supply a controlled drug (even if it is 2

ANTI DRUG CAMPAIGN

This is the anti drug campaign I decided to promote.
It is called 'Make your choice'.
It is made for warning teenagers about the risks and the effects that drugs have on people's life.
It is colourful. It has many images and also much text. The text has got headlines and paragraphs. The paragraphs are not quite clear because they have small characters, but on the other hand the headlines are really clear and they summarise everything.
The message sets the reader, or the target audience, in the position of thinking over the acts and thoughts; as a mather of facts it asks to decide if to live or to die.
Through my survey I understood that some people think it is crouded, while others think it is good, interesting and also think it is got good informations.
I wrote a straight and a simple message that says to say no to drugs.

How long did you run the campaign for?
When I first strarted the production of my campaign I decided to do different campaign posters so at the end I would have had more choice. After 2 o 3 weeks I had to choose between four campaign posters and the best way to do it was through a survey. I decided to ask teenagers, who are the particular target audience, to tell me which of my posters they prefered and the reason.

What would you do next time to refine your campaign?
I think I might try to get many other backgrounds so I might see if it still looks crowdy or not, or I might try to change the layout or the text style or words. I might investigate deeper on drugs and maybe get something more original to write.
In spite of everything I think my campaign poster is good, successful and sadisfactory!

What have you learned from researching, prepering, planning and conducting a campaign?
I think this work on the campaign have made me understand more that everything has a language: the way you talk to an adult is not the way you talk to a kid, and vice versa. As a matter of fact one of my posters was addressed to adults and in fact only 2 teenagers, out of 27, said they prefered it. Through this anti drug campaign I also got more informed about drug effects and I'm really happy of having this opportunity.
Thanks to everyone who helped me work it out.

My Anti-Drug Campaign

DO YOU LIKE MY CAMPAIGN POSTER?

These four are my initial ideas for the anti-drug campaign.
Their target audience are different.
I decided to analyse the four posters after a survey i did by asking to young people in my college and other places which of the posters they preferred.

The first one is named 'Be pure'. It is aimed to men and women of every age because it is simple and its message is straight and it is also a command. Many people liked it as well as many people didn't like it. The ones that liked said it had a deep message and meaning. The people who declared to don't like it said it was too simple and they said that the message was not all that clear. It had 10 votes over 27.

The second one, 'One life left', is aimed to an older audience, approximately from 19 yrs old up ways because it has a strong message that sometimes young teenagers don't understand and it also looks boring. As a matter of fact it had only 2 votes over 27.

The third one is named 'Make your choice'. It is made for young teenagers because it' s colorful, some things are just drawings and there is also message that clearly says: 'Prevent teenage drug use'. It has got some information about the side effects caused by the use of drug. At my survey some people said they didn't like it because it was too crowded, but it was still the most voted and successful campaign poster of all the ones I did. It had 12 votes over 27

The fourth one is 'Just say no'. It has a simple design in which there is only one picture. It has a clear message, but it also has a bad-looking picture. It is good for everybody: men, women, teenagers, young and old people. It had only 3 votes over 27.

Campign diary 5/03/2010

Today I continued my work on the campaign.
Mine is anti-drug campaign. I then started a research on drugs and their effects and I printed out my research.
I then thought of working on a drug page, to add some pictures, headlines and some other information.
I then decided to start doing a campaign poster and to do it on my blog as well.
